Your grandmother's gold, reborn

Remelting family gold jewelry into bespoke pieces — made for the next generation, built on what already matters.

There is a certain kind of jewelry that never gets worn. It lives in a drawer, in a velvet pouch, or tucked inside a box that only comes out when you move house. A ring that belonged to someone you loved. A chain passed down without ceremony. A bracelet that no longer fits the life you're living — but that you could never bring yourself to let go of.

At Studio IRIS, we believe gold is not meant to wait. It is meant to be worn, felt, and carried forward. Remelting family gold jewelry is the most conscious choice you can make — for the material, for the planet, and for the story you want to pass on.

Remelting family heirlooms

Gold never disappears — it transforms

Gold is one of the few materials on earth that can be melted down and reborn without losing a single gram of its essence. The gold in your grandmother's ring is chemically identical to what it has always been. It holds no memory of its shape — only of its origin.

When we remelt family gold jewelry, we are not erasing the past. We are releasing it from a form that no longer serves, and giving it a new one that does. The same atoms, a new intention.

From inheritance to intention

The process of remelting family gold jewelry begins with a conversation. You bring your pieces — rings, chains, pendants, earrings — and we take time to understand what they mean to you, and what you want to carry forward.

  1. CONSULTATION
We meet in our studio in the Netherlands. You bring your pieces; we listen. Together we explore what the gold means and what shape it should take next.

  2. DESIGN
We sketch and refine a design that is entirely yours — nothing standardized, nothing generic. Every detail considered from the material outward.

  3. REMELT & CRAFT
Your family gold is melted down in our workshop and worked by hand into the new piece. Nothing wasted, nothing added that isn't necessary.

  4. HANDOVER

You receive a piece that carries the past quietly — and belongs completely to now.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Everything you want to know about remelting family gold

What types of family gold jewelry can be remelted?

Almost any gold jewellery can be remelted and reworked — rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, brooches. Different gold alloys (14k, 18k, 22k, 24k) may be combined or kept separate depending on the design. We assess each piece together during your consultation.

Can diamonds and gemstones be incorporated?

Yes. If your heirloom pieces carry stones you love, we can incorporate them into the new design — setting them in fresh gold, giving them a context that finally does them justice.

How long does the process take?

Every piece is made by hand, so timelines vary. After your consultation and once the design is confirmed, production typically takes four to eight weeks. We keep you informed at every stage.

Is remelting family gold more sustainable than buying new?

Significantly. Gold mining is one of the most resource-intensive industries on earth. By remelting family gold jewelry, you eliminate the need for new extraction entirely. The material already exists — we simply give it a new form.

Where is Studio IRIS based?
